Rockford truly is a community that has small town values and the benefits of a big city. Once known as Illinois’ 2nd city, Rockford’s people will always be 1st in line to help you, and become a friend. I lived in a neighborhood on Rockford’s near NW side back in the 60’s and early 70’s. Back then we were a neighborhood in which everyone knew their neighbor, had cookouts together, watched out for everyone’s kids and lived safely. We could keep our doors and windows unlocked most times and that didn’t change until the mid 70’s. I remember playing baseball with friends from around the block 2-3 times a day at the nearby park, and walking all the way out to Anna Page park to fish in the creek or just play on the rock dam a little. Our parent’s most important rules - be home for meals, and in by dark. It was a great childhood. We moved away from Rockford and all I could think of was when could I go back home. After a stint in the Air Force I came home to old friends, new friends and new memories. I proposed to my wife on the sled hill at Rock Cut Park during the winter, and we have shared many good family memories here. There is much to do in Rockford if you just take the time to look - lots of family activities such as music in the park, camping, fishing, golf, and bicycling. If you’re into rifles and handguns, there are clubs and ranges available nearby. We have a great system of bike paths, and of course Magic Waters and Volcano Falls. You can count on people of Rockford - and it’s nearby neighbors, to be friendly and helpful.
